After being clinically dead for seven minutes due to a heart attack, Shiv Grewal, 60, now paints what he claims he saw in the Hereafter.
The incident occurred when he was 50 years old, while he was eating quietly at home with his wife. Unexpectedly, he suffered a heart attack and was attended to by paramedics who pronounced him dead for a period of seven minutes, though they eventually managed to bring him back to life.

To ensure his recovery, he was induced into a coma for a month. Despite this, Grewal remembers every second of those seven minutes, during which he claims to have had a transcendental experience that he describes as the Afterlife.

According to Grewal, in the moments when he was clinically dead, he saw meteorites and space, which now serves as inspiration for his artwork. “It was like an empty jar, but I could feel emotions and sensations,” Grewal explains.
Grewal’s pieces also feature blurred lines, symbolizing a “cosmic journey” he says he experienced, describing it as feeling like traveling to the Moon. After emerging from the coma, he had to relearn how to walk and talk, and even today, he continues to struggle with mobility and communication issues.
Reflecting on his experience, Grewal states, “I knew that my brain was dying and that I was calling out for help. But at the same time, I felt things completely detached from my body.”

To this day, Shiv continues to suffer from the aftereffects of the massive heart attack, including epilepsy, which has forced him to leave his acting career behind.
Nevertheless, Shiv will be showcasing his artwork at an exhibition in London titled Reboot, held at the Sanctum Hotel. “I remember every sensation my heart endured, and I translate it into my art. My works are a map of rediscovery and an attempt to understand my experience,” Shiv commented.
